Black Hole Search

Although the MicroObservatory telescopes can’t take a picture of a black hole (after all, they’re black!), you can request images of objects in space where astronomers have discovered tell-tale signs of black hole behavior.

Things to do with your images once you get them:

Use your images to create a poster explaining what you’ve learned about black holes.  Here are a couple of good web sites to begin your research: http://wwww.universeforum.org

Compare your MicroObservatory images to images of the same objects captured by other ground-based and space based observatories. Use the "search" function at NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day website to type in the name of your object.

Download our MicroObservatory Image Processing software to enhance and colorize your MicroObservatory telescope images.

Come back to the Black Hole Search activity to collect images of as many Black Hole sites as you can.

Troubleshooting: If your image didn’t come out, be sure to come back and try again –
our telescopes take images every night, but we can’t guarantee the weather!
